, april 15th, tax day, patriots day, the marathon, please be individual dots that investigators will think about. they will be careful to, the media, i include myself in that, now, we want to connect those dots very quickly and say, look. it was pats' day. it might be extremists. these are all individual dots that, at some point, will make sense. but right now, the federal bureau of investigation, the boston police, others in the u.s. government, are really in the process of collecting all of these dots. the date, potential groups that might have made threats before, the forensic information. looking at overseas intelligence. and it's really only after all of those dots are collected, that you very slowly and methodically start to connect them slowly. so, it may very well be that april 15th had some consequence here. it could turn out it had nothing to do with it. this was simply the boston marathon or simply an attack of opportunity. a factor, do we know if it's positive or points in one point or another? not less than 24 hours later. no, we really don't. >> you talk about the dots that n
the last couple of months. >> there are good articles in the papers today about how the tax receipts were better than expected so far, and the money back out for your refund, much lower than expected and that could be a dollar issue. i know family dollar flagged that, and the ceo of pvh came on "mad money" and said, it was 20 degrees too cold so we had the -- all of the stores had the wrong merchandise and they had the so-called cruisewear. it was obviously a multi-factor issue and it was not just one thing that says target was bad. walmart was not bad and a very good note. costco, and i'm -- i thought that was interesting. surrounded by costco and walmart. you know those cultures are not weather cultures. >> yeah. ubs initiates with a buy on those two and a neutral on target, but someone pointed out the sales trend on target, jim, from the past four quarters has gone from 5-3, 2-9, .4 and now they're looking flat. >> they're not a jc penney beneficiary and walmart is not very renewed in its tenacious way to take on target and underneath the dollar generals. i know people don't associate
at is the location, boston marathon the date on tax day, on patriots day, four or five days before the anniversary of waco. these are all images and symbols that investigators are sifting through to see if that had anything to do with the message that was put here with these two bombs at the boston marathon. they can't rule out overseas, foreign terrorism and they looking at all of that trying to determine who was behind this and why. >> shep: you might have thought in the moments after this bombing that when these pressure cookers exploded they would have exploded in a lot of pieces. what these pictures seem to indicate, very large pieces held together. we see numbers identifying marks. we see materials that are clearly, according to your sources, the materials that held this bomb as it sat either in a trash can or side 56 curb. these are very valuable pieces of evidence which i'm getting will be iconic pieces. i'm getting there are reporters all over boston are wondering how in atlanta came across this? >> i would love to tell you, shepard, i think we'll have to have that conversation off air. >
towards a foreign or domestic. it could be either one. patriots day, also tax day. that could've got people up in arms. it could be a foreign type. so you leave all the options, all the possibilities open and let the evidence and the cctv cameras and the witnesses will bring you to your suspects. >> chief, how extensive is the camera network in boston? obviously, when something happens in london you can -- >> dial it up. >> you can dial it up pretty quick. there are a few streets in london that aren't on close circuit tv. do you know what the situation is in boston? >> yeah, my sense is most american cities, new york is going that route. there's nothing like london and belfast. those two cities have complete integrated system and it's almost nothing without it being captured on cctv cameras. as a matter of fact, back in 2005 in london, they were able to follow those guys from outside of london all the way into london to the subways and to the bus. so there the cctv cameras were absolutely invaluable in the investigation. my sense is boston -- they will have some cctv cameras. filming
